Growing some of your own food and cooking from the garden can be an empowering experience. It sure is for some of the residents of Marbridge Farm & Ranch. Residents who wish to learn, and are able, spend time raising and tending food gardens.
I met Mark Knox, gardening instructor, and Jan Meeks, art instructor, at Marbridge earlier this year. Although both are technically employees at Marbridge, it was clear to me that each has great compassion for the residents.
Marbridge, better known to longtime Central Texans as Marbridge Farm or Marbridge Ranch, is only 12 miles south of downtown Austin in Manchaca. Marbridge serves as a residential educational and training facility for adults with cognitive challenges.
