I used to think I was a frugal cook — using everything and wasting nothing. But after this year’s SXSW Eco, and talking to Tamar Adler, cook and author of An Everlasting Meal: Cooking with Economy and Grace, I came to the realization that I still have a long way to go.
Can sustainable agriculture feed us in the long term, or is large-scale industrial agriculture the only way to keep the world fed? That was one of the questions raised during this year’s SXSW Eco. And someone who has spent a lifetime trying to find an answer is Anna Lappé, founding director of the Food Myth Busters Project.
Mondays are like the New Year’s Day of each week. It’s when we resolve to do better and to be better at…well…whatever. And the folks with the Monday Campaigns know this and use Mondays as a launch pad for delivering health messages, including Meatless Mondays, where people are encouraged to be part-time vegetarians for their health and the health of the planet.
